The San Francisco cable car system is the worlds last manually operated system in the US and is among the most famous tourist attractions in the city along with Alcatraz Island and Fishermans Wharf. Cable cars operate on two routes from downtown near Union Square to Fishermans Wharf and a third route along California Street.
